Janus
Janus E2S its a product developed by wsbp electronics for implementation of a monitoring and Controling system in a building, covering, among others, issues related to indoor environmental quality, consumption and local production of energy and outdoor weather conditions proves to be extremely
important. The collected information enables a detailed analysis of the performance and the management of buildings and their respective technical systems. Besides that, the build-up of databases allows for benchmarking tests and their analysis contributes to a well structured knowledge about the building metabolism and the operational condition of the different systems.
In Figure 1, a janus e2s schematic representation of a building monitoring system using state-of-the-art solutions provided by recent information technologies is depicted.
The flexible solution developed by WSBP is based on a distributed network of sensors with wireless communication. The central unit of the network is a router-like machine that serves as a hub for the information that is received from the various transmission nodes. Any sensor or measurement system provided that they have digital or analog outputs can be linked to the network transmission nodes. IPv6 protocol is used for communication within the network. The information collected through the router is sent to a database residing on a server and can be provided to customers or accessed through a web application. The application software, named Janus, was developed for data processing and for providing direct access to the information via Internet. It already includes the following modules:

- The Dashboard module which displays real-time information about the last measured quantities by all the sensors in the network, while enabling different aggregation levels when displaying the data: e.g. by area or by type of variable;
- The Space Investigator module that broadcasts, in a looping sequence, information about each analyzed space in the building to a large display to be placed, for example, at the entrance hall;
- The Detailed View module , that accesses the database allowing the querying and displaying of time series for the last hour, the last day or the last week of the monitored parameter selected by the user.
JANUS - RESULTS AND DATA ANALYSIS
The post-processing of collected data gives very meaningful information about the metabolism of the building and the installed HVAC systems. It is possible to identify clearly the occupancy routines. Time series of CO2
concentrations allow also the calculation of building air infiltration and HVAC air exchange rate. With indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity time series it is possible to identify working and idling periods of HVAC system and to evaluate the

performance of energy system and of the passive part of the building. Also the segmented energy counters are giving very meaningful information, allowing the breakdown of the total energy demand of building by the different energy consumers and the
identification of some energy saving opportunities, where clear and specific saving measures should be applied (e.g. stand-by consumptions reduction, correction of reactive energy, etc.).
